A barn, badges & origami cranes – Claudia’s und Tobi’s wedding

This was my second german wedding this year, this time in a small town called Grimma, near Leipzig. Tobias & Claudia are friends and flatmates back from university. Claudia is originally from the area and they picked the beautiful Bergkirche zu Beucha for their ceremony. The church is on top of a mountain, surrounded by a lake. We went there the evening before, just to catch a glimpse of it with the sunset.

The morning of the wedding started with some final decorations of the reception venue Kloster Nimbschen with the help of lots of friends. One friend, an experienced florist, created the bouquet and all flower decorations of the venue. Both Tobias and Claudia got ready at the venue’s hotel. Claudia had both her bridesmaids and their gorgeous daughter Mia with her.

Tobias waited for his bride outside the church and they walked down the aisle together to Mendelson Bartholdy’s “Wedding march”.

German weddings have quite a few different wedding traditions, one of them being the couple sawing a log of wood on arrival at the reception venue. This is to demonstrate teamwork and the willingness to work and live life hand in hand with your partner. Tobias and Claudia were lucky, they didn’t get a rusty saw.

While we had a little portrait session capturing the amazing landscape including vast fields and the ruins of an old nunnery, the guests had a chance to mingle, relax in the sun and everyone helped with the balloons – which was another lovely surprise for the couple, as we returned. One of the most amazing presents and decorative element of the day, was a mobile made of a massive tree branch and a few hundred colourful origami kranes. Guests continued to create more cranes throughout the day in an attempt to get a thousand. Here some more impressions of the afternoon.

Claudia is a very creative person and spent a lot of time on pinterest collecting ideas for their wedding day. The table plan, was one of my favourites so far. Guests identified their table by finding the matching badge of their name tag.

This was definitely one of the best weddings this year. Everyone had a blast and Claudia and Tobias couldn’t have done it any better. Wishing you both and little Mia the very best.
