My wedding photography for David and Rachel began at their engagement photo session, where his kind and caring nature and her inner calm struck a chord with me instantly. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this lovely couple: let me take you through their wedding day.
Joyful Crouch End wedding shines through the showers
Rachel and David call Crouch End home and their wedding ceremony and afternoon tea were held in the church that plays a huge role in their lives, St. Saviour’s Church, Crouch End. Bunting in purple and green – handcrafted with time and love by Rachel’s mum – adorned the church, along with flowers including a fantastic pomander at the church entrance and urn arrangements, all by Kirsty Jean Flowers.
Routemaster bus and loving ceremony
A Routemaster bus brought the bride, her dad and bridesmaids to the church. Rachel was overwhelmed with emotion and, though her walk down the aisle was a little shaky, there was a very happy groom waiting to pledge a lifetime of support at the alter. I will not forget the moment David said his vows; his full commitment shone through, with so much joy and excitement, as he promised to have and hold his beautiful bride.
Rachel’s love of knitting gave the minister – who has known the couple for a long time – the chance to turn a simple length of wool into a lovely and meaningful metaphor.
Crouch End Church features in special shots
After the ceremony, we took the opportunity for a group shot of the bridal party as well as some brief portraits at the church, as it was important for Rachel and David to incorporate the church into their photos.
Afternoon tea with cupcakes for church family
An afternoon tea made the importance of Rachel and David’s church family evident, with speeches thankful for the help and support of everyone there. Bunting – this time crafted from sugar – adorned the wedding cake (more lovely work by the mother of the bride!), which was complemented by cupcakes from Good Cake Day and washed down by lemonade.
Reception off to a tee at the Muswell Hill Golf Course
With confetti in the rain and umbrellas at the ready, it was off to the reception at Muswell Hill Golf Course. Very friendly staff, amazing food and spacious grounds filled with trees made this an ideal venue for the evening reception, and a pleasure to photograph. Despite an early September chill, it provided the perfect backdrop for portrait sessions away from the crowd. Though I was fully prepared for rain with a plan B, a few breaks in the showers were welcome as we got the group shots.
Bride’s vintage-inspired dress
Rachel wore a simple, vintage-inspired dress with an alternative edge from Indiebride London. David’s bespoke half canvas in blue three-piece suit was the work of Edit Suits Co. And, as an avid cyclist, he set off his crisp look with cufflinks in the shape of bike chain links; a subtle symbol of unity.
The groomsmen had no excuse for being late, as David gave them all watches as thank-you gifts. Other thoughtful touches included laser cut name tags on the dining tables, made by a friend, and floral jam jar arrangements and table centres, again handcrafted by Rachel’s mum.
Funny, thankful and loving speeches
Rachel’s father paid tribute to his daughter during his speech, while welcoming David into the family. The groom’s atrocious navigation skills while hiking, and some stag do secrets were revealed in the best man’s speech. And David? Well, this kind and caring man took his turn to thank the families, and proclaim his love for his beautiful bride Rachel.
Grateful memories of a happy day
